Travis Kelce chose to marry Katy Perry over his now-wife Taylor Swift in a resurfaced interview from a decade ago. In 2016, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 36, appeared to favor pop princess Katy, 41, over his 14-time Grammy Award-winning fiancée, also 36. Little did he know that he would end up tying the knot with Taylor 10 years later during a star-studded ceremony at Madison Square Garden. In the clip, which was from an interview with AfterBuzz TV, sport star Travis played a game of ‘Kiss, Marry, Kill’ and was faced with the tough choice between Taylor, Katy and Ariana Grande.

Reluctantly, Travis chose to kill Ariana. He then ultimately opted for a mere peck with his now bride-to-be Taylor, and chose to marry California Girls singer, Katy. ‘Damn, that’s messed up. I don’t wanna kill any of them,’ he said. ‘Kill Ariana, unfortunately,’ he continued. ‘Love you, but you’re gone.’ Without missing a beat, Travis added: ‘Taylor to kiss and… what was the last one? Katy Perry would be to marry.’ It’s no secret that Katy and Taylor had a rather nasty falling out, with the latter even penning her 2015 song Bad Blood about their dispute – which began when Katy apparently tried to hire a bunch of Taylor’s backup dancers and ‘sabotage an entire arena tour.’

However, the two former frenemies appear to have put their previous feud behind them. In January, Katy gushed about Taylor’s concert in Sydney, and their interaction there, revealing: ‘I got to see her and we got to catch up and I love her so much. It comes days after Travis and Taylor said ‘I do’ in front of 1,000 of their closest friends – and the world’s biggest stars – in a colossal blowout at Madison Square Garden on Friday. They kept fans guessing until the very end, refusing to confirm when exactly they would say ‘I Do’, or indeed, if they already had.
MSG lights up after Taylor and Travis wed
But at exactly 7.30pm, the couple shared the news in blockbuster style, lighting up the iconic music venue with video ads which read ‘JUST&T MARRIED!’, in a romantic nod to their shared initials. Both the bride and groom were dressed in Christian Dior, her publicist later announced. There were no bridesmaids, instead, Taylor’s brother Austin acted as her ‘man of honor’, and Travis’s brother Jason was the best man. The couple’s Love Story began three years ago this week, when Travis first laid eyes on the songstress at her Kansas City Eras Tour concert on July 8, 2023.
How Travis landed his now-wife
The Chiefs tight end tried to meet Taylor that evening, bringing along a friendship bracelet that contained his phone number. However, his attempt at handing her the jewelry was unsuccessful. At the same time, Taylor was at her own professional peak, traveling the world for her sold-out stadium shows, with Travis flying in to support her. Despite their hectic schedules and intense public interest in their romance, Travis claimed that he felt calmed by both his girlfriend’s presence and down-to-earth nature. ‘Whenever I’m with her, it feels like we’re just regular people.… When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love,’ he told GQ. When the couple announced their engagement in August of last year, social media exploded in celebration, with fans immediately speculating about their wedding.
