The jury is out on whether Taylor Swift wrote her song When Emma Falls In Love about her friend and actress Emma Stone.

The track was written during the 2010 Speak Now sessions but it remained in the vault until she released her new Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) re-recording of the album this past July.

Since making the light of day over the summer, some fans are convinced that the previously unreleased song, which is among six new From The Vault tunes on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), is in fact about Stone and her ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield.

During the Poor Things premiere at DGA Theater in New York City on Wednesday Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith asked the actress if she is the muse of Swift’s song.

‘Oh,’ Stone, 35, responded, before pausing to think and then respond. ‘You would have to ask her.’

Stone would play coy again, and laugh it off, when she was told about Swift attending the big premiere in support her new black comedy film Poor Things.

The Midnights singer-songwriter did in fact attend the event, although she decided to forgo the red carpet hoopla and just sit in on the screening.

The Lover star was photographed alongside Searchlight Pictures president David Greenbaum wearing a long black coat over an elegant black dress.

The two ladies would eventually hook up at the premiere and pose together for a few photos, after Stone had changed from a striking yellow dress into an off-white spaghetti- strap number.

All the excitement of the event came five months after the pop superstar dropped her third re-recording featuring When Emma Falls In Love.

Many fans were quick to speculate that the lyrics are about Stone and Spider-Man star Garfield, who first met in 2010, around the time the song was written, and went on to date until 2015.

Even more fans doubled down after Swift performed the song during the acoustic set of her Eras Tour stop in Kansas City where she told the audience the song was written about one of her best friends, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Incorporating elements of country and pop, When Emma Falls In Love begins as a gentle ballad alongside a ‘lilting piano that lends the song a childlike spirit.’

Stone and Swift often support each other’s big events over the years, including the pop superstar hurrying to attend her friend’s Poor Things premiere in NYC

Lyrically, the song sounds like the narrator’s experience of watching a friend fall in and out of love, and her admiration for that friend.

The use of a banjo and a piano melody helps give it that crossover element between country and pop

‘When Emma falls in love, she paces the floor / Closes the blinds and locks the door,’ Swift sings off the top of the first verse. ‘When Emma falls in love, she calls up her mom / Jokes about the ways that this one could go wrong / She waits and takes her time / ‘Cause Little Miss Sunshine always thinks it’s gonna rain / When Emma falls in love, I know / That boy will never be the same.’

The back section of the verse seemed to point to Stone, who has been very open over the years about how close she is to her mother, sometimes referring to her and her father as ‘the coolest parents in the world.

Stone and Swift reportedly met at the Young Hollywood Awards in 2008 when they were both still teenagers, and became fast friends.

At the time, Stone had already been in the hit comedy Superbad (2007) and was quickly on her way to the A-list. Stone even brought Swift as her date to the 2010 premiere of her movie Easy A.

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos from a screenplay by Tony McNamara, Poor Things is based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray.

Stone stars as Bella, a young women brought back to life by her guardian, the scientists Dr. Godwin Baxter. Initially naïve, Bella is eager to learn about the world around her, albeit under Baxter’s protection.

Wanting to see more, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a slick and debauched lawyer, and travels across continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella demands equality and liberation.

Along with Stone, the cast for the film also included the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott and Jerrod Carmichael.

While Swift lent her support for Poor Things, which debuts in the U.S. on December 8, it comes months after the actress attended one of her pal’s The Eras Tour shows in Glendale, Arizona.

Afterwards, Stone, a Scottsdale, Arizona native, said of the musician: ‘She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind.’
