Artificial intelligence experts believe there is a 50-50 chance that machines will take over all our jobs within a century.

A poll of more than 2,700 researchers suggests it could be ‘better and cheaper’ than humans in all professions by 2116 – nearly 50 years earlier than the same prediction last year.

The bank Goldman Sachs predicts that up to 300million roles are already at risk globally.

The ‘2023 Expert Survey on Progress in AI’ was carried out by six academics from Oxford University and institutions in the US and Germany.

Participants were shown a list of tasks, from folding laundry to writing hit songs as well as Taylor Swift, and were asked how long it would be before AI could do them better and more cheaply.

By 2116 they said there was a 50 per cent chance AI would excel in all roles, from lorry drivers to surgeons.

However, the World Economic Forum predicts AI will generate 12million more jobs than it replaces in the next few years.
