Taylor Swift fan sites are popping off, Instagram is awash with Swifties dissecting lyrical Easter eggs and I heard at least five heated debates regarding song rankings on my way into the office this morning. It can only mean one thing: Taylor’s highly anticipated 12th studio albumThe Life of a Showgirl has finally been released.

As has become an expectation for each of Taylor’s new releases, the 14-time Grammy Award winner has created a strong aesthetic to accompany this album. Of course, with such a title as The Life of a Showgirl, it wasn’t much of a surprise when she donned a number of bejewelled showgirl-esque ensembles to tease the release.

One of the star’s most iconic looks, however, was certainly the skimpy, diamante-adorned look shot by iconic fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for three of the eight album covers. Wearing a full look designed by legendary costumier Bob Mackie – whose work you’ve likely also seen on the likes of Cher, Dolly Parton and Sabrina Carpenter – she fully embraces the glitzy aesthetic.

Originally designed for long-running Las Vegas show Jubilee! and covered top to bottom with rhinestones and feathers, the look is an iconic piece of showgirl history. Taylor is well known for her attention to detail when it comes to each of her ‘eras’ so this clever nod comes as no surprise.

While we may not all have an occasion that would warrant donning an outfit quite as risqué as Taylor’s cabaret-inspired looks, there are lots of elements within the aesthetic that are more wearable. Plus, with party season fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to embrace a little extra sparkle.
