taylor-alert-–-man-questions-if-he-is-overreacting-after-his-girlfriend-purchased-taylor-swift-merch-instead-of-paying-rentTaylor Alert – Man questions if he is overreacting after his girlfriend purchased Taylor Swift merch instead of paying rent

A boyfriend has unleashed a fiery rant at his girlfriend after he paid her portion of her rent and she splashed out cash on Taylor Swift merch instead of paying him back.

The unnamed man took to Reddit to beg people on the web for advice as he questioned whether he was ‘overreacting.’

He explained that his lover had switched jobs last month and was unemployed for over two weeks.

Because of this, she didn’t have enough to pay her living costs and so her boyfriend covered it, with the expectation that she would cover the total amount the next month.

However, when it came time to pay rent again, his anonymous girlfriend left him fuming when she revealed she once again didn’t have the funds, despite having spent $100 on Taylor Swift-inspired clothing.

The unnamed man took to Reddit to beg people on the web for advice as she questioned whether he was ‘overreacting’

In a thread titled, Am I Overreacting, he lamented about his girlfriend’s spending habits.

He explained: ‘A bit of context – early last month my girlfriend switched jobs and was unemployed for about two-and-a-half weeks.

‘During that time, we talked about how we would handle the mortgage and bills – I would cover her half for September ($600), so long as she could cover my half this month.

‘Instead of covering my half this month, she is short on rent again. She gave me what she could, but now owes me $800.’

Despite owing her lover a whopping $800, the unnamed woman decided to spend her time online shopping.

She splashed out $100 for the A-lister’s merch and then excitedly showed her boyfriend what she bought.

Her shopping addiction caused the Reddit user to become furious as he explained that he felt like he was constantly going above and beyond for her.

He added: ‘Yesterday, she excitedly showed me her new, expensive Taylor Swift merch (~$100) and I just couldn’t keep it together. Rather than going off on her, I got quiet and then tried to go sleep it off. But I still feel snubbed.

‘I’m out $800, not really any room for luxuries right now. And yet, I think how this situation would have been so more palatable – If she just asked, I would have bought it myself and given it to her as a gift. Even if it meant having to make sacrifices of my own.

‘It’s less about the money, and more about putting my partner before my own wants/needs. I feel like I do not get that in return. I fear that I have started a pattern by offering “rent forgiveness” last month, & I feel taken advantage of.

‘Am I justified? How would you handle this situation? I have not shared my feelings with my gf yet, as I expect she has a clue, but I plan to talk about this at length with her when I get home today.’

People on the web flocked to the comments section as they slammed his girlfriend for ‘taking advantage’ of him.

One person said: ‘You’re justified in the way you feel. She’s taking advantage of you knowing you’ll give in to her every want and desire.’

Someone else wrote: ‘Eviction notice. Taylor’s version.’

Another user added: ‘She owes you two months and spent wildly. This is her showing her true colors. I would let her know that her actions have you reconsidering how the future would look with her and you don’t like it. You can do better.’

One user commented: ‘Any time she buys something just remind her that she still owes you rent money.’
