Taylor Swift appears to finally reveal her true feelings about Blake Lively in her new song Cancelled! from the singer’s 12th studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl.
The singer left fans on the edge of their seats while listening to the track and waiting for her to dish the dirt, only to notice the surprise reconciliation.
The track follows a rocky period for the longtime pals, who reportedly cut communication after Taylor’s name got dragged into Blake’s legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni, which began in December 2024.
Rather than a so-called diss track about her ‘ex-BFF’ which fans expected Taylor to release, the songstress instead paid homage to their long-standing friendship in a show of unity.
The 35-year-old billionaire pop star appears to offer a tentative olive branch in the chorus, in an attempt to end their reported rift.
She sings: ‘At least you know exactly who your friends are / They’re the ones with matching scars’, seemingly referencing the bond between the two women who have both been singled out, mocked or misunderstood.

Taylor’s lyrics serve an image of strong friendship with Blake, rather than a feud anthem.
The singer, who has been at the centre of scandals and controversies over the years, reveals her thoughts about cancel culture in the new track.
Her lyrics about toxic friends allude to those who have been involved in scandals – most recently Blake – and how she relates to them.
She sings: ‘Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal / Like my whiskey sour / And poison thorny flowers.’
In one part she sings about ‘poison thorny flowers’, which could be a reference to Blake’s florist character, who owns a shop called Lily Bloom’s in her scandal-ridden movie It Ends with Us.
Proving further her song is a nod to BFF Blake, Taylor references ‘whiskey sour’ which could easily be about Blake’s liquor company Betty Booze.
And the 38-year-old Gossip Girl alum just so happened to serve as the brand ambassador for the Italian luxury fashion house’s fragrance, Gucci Première, back in 2012-2013.
Fans have also speculated Taylor has dissed Katy Perry in the track with the lyrics: ‘Beware the wrath of masked crusaders / Did you girl boss too close to the sun?’
Taylor and Katy’s friendship has taken a circuitous route, as they went from good friends to feuding ex-pals before patching up their tattered relationship.
But the first cryptic hints that things had soured between the friendly acquaintances came about in 2014 as Taylor promoted her 1989 single Bad Blood.
In an interview with Rolling Stone at the time, Taylor admitted the song was inspired by another female performer.
‘For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,’ Swift said in the interview. ‘She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, “Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?”‘
She added that the person ‘did something horrible’ that made them ‘straight-up enemies.’
Surprisingly, Taylor clarified that it didn’t involve cheating or romances, but instead was purely business-based.
‘She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me,’ she explained. ‘And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So, now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.’
The interview alone might not have made it obvious that Taylor was referring to Katy, but the day after it was published, the California Gurls singer tweeted, ‘Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…,’ referring to the Mean Girls character played by Rachel McAdams.
Katy left little doubt about what she was referring to when she later added, ‘If somebody is trying to defame my character, you’re going to hear about it.’
Then, in a 2015 Telegraph profile, Taylor confirmed bluntly that she was feuding with Katy when she said she was ‘never going to talk about her’ in her interviews.
‘I have my friends. I have my enemies,’ she added.
However, other fans have jumped to Katy and Taylor’s defence, insisting the song is not a diss track about Katy.
Blake Lively faced substantial backlash last year over how she and her husband Ryan Reynolds’s company Maximum Effort marketed the domestic violence drama as she cheerfully declared: ‘Grab your friends, wear your florals, and head out to see it!’
‘Did you girl-boss too close to the sun?’ the 14-time Grammy winner asked on her new track.
‘Did they catch you having far too much fun? / Come with me, when they see us, they’ll run / Something wicked this way comes.’
In just five months, Blake will face off against Justin at her sexual harassment and defamation trial in Manhattan US District Court, and Taylor has been begrudgingly subpoenaed but not yet deposed.
According to Justin’s attorney Bryan Freedman, Blake allegedly blackmailed the bride-to-be in February by threatening to release nine years of private text messages if she didn’t issue a statement of support amid her legal war. Blake’s legal team has strenuously denied this claim.
‘Did you make a joke only a man could? Were you just too smug for your own good?’ Taylor sang.
‘Or bring a tiny violin to a knife fight? Baby, that all ends tonight.’
The Another Simple Favor actress previously claimed Taylor was involved in every aspect of It Ends with Us, including the casting of Isabela Ferrer and the licensing of her 2020 song My Tears Ricochet for the movie’s soundtrack.
Blake even formally thanked the Pennsylvania-born belter and her brother Austin Swift within the end credits.

‘I mean, honestly, she was with me on this experience the whole time, all throughout it, so she really lived this with me,’ Lively alleged during a post-screening Q&A last year.
‘She’s a person who shows up for you, and I’m so grateful to have that love and support.’
But in May, Taylor’s rep told the Daily Mail of her subpoena: ‘Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film.
‘She never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.’
The statement concluded: ‘Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.’
Blake and Taylor have not been publicly pictured together since their double date with their respective spouses at The Corner Store in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood on October 11, 2024.
‘Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons. It is just right,’ Taylor said on her fiancé Travis Kelce’s podcast New Heights August 11.

‘This album isn’t really about what happened to me onstage [during my 149-date Eras Tour]. It’s about what I was going through offstage. This, to me, tells more of what the actual contents lyrically of the album are.’
