Taylor Swift, Meghan Markle and Ariana Grande are in the firing line as Spitting Image returns to screens tonight with an outrageous new series that sees celebrities ‘mercilessly mocked’.

Following a successful one-off special, the hit ITV show will return for its first full 12-part series of, Spitting Image: The Rest Is Bulls*!t.

And sneak-peak images show pop icon Taylor Swift with her signature red lip and oh-so high cheekbones, and the Duchess of Sussex with comically enlarged teeth.

Other royals are not safe either, and King Charles can be seen refusing a greasy burger offered to him by a bib-wearing Donald Trump.

World leaders such as Kim Jong Un and our very own Keir Starmer look delightfully sour-faced as their caricature selves.

And joining fellow industry great Taylor is pop legend Ariana Grande, sporting her recent pale foundation and hollowed cheekbones.

An all-new episode of the comedy series will be available to view on Friday evening on Spitting Image’s YouTube channel, which passed a milestone 100 million views earlier this month.

The specially created, original short-form episodes are ‘for all those wanting to laugh in the face of these anxiety-inducing times of global conflict, unhinged world leaders and megalomaniac Fin Tech bosses.’

The synopsis reads: ‘The (latex) gloves are off and it’s not pulling any punches. This isn’t just satire. It’s a no holds barred up-to-the-minute assault on the world of politics, pop culture and media control.

‘From The White House to Windsor, from Putin to Paddington via Silicon Valley – it’s fearless, it’s as disgusting as the real people and it’s as hard-hitting as you remember – ideal entertainment for anyone with a 21st century attention span.’

Friday’s episode will give watchers insight into President Trump’s recent UK state visit – and much more.

The new series is led creatively by Al Murray and Matt Forde who also wrote the critically acclaimed stage show Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical.

The BAFTA and Emmy award-winning satirical Spitting Image television series originally ran for 18 series between 1984 and 1996 and was watched by over 15 million viewers.

In 2020 it made a return to TV to (since disbanded UK streaming service) BritBox, achieving critical praise across the political divide.

On official social media channels, Spitting Image content was massively popular with over 200 million views globally and three number one trending videos on YouTube.

Three new one-off specials for ITV, alongside BritBox, also saw huge success on terrestrial television: with a 4.4 million audience in 2020 achieving ITV’s highest Saturday night ratings at that time in four years.

A teaser episode on the Spitting Image YouTube channel has been released to give fans a sneak peak of what’s in store.

It shows Prince Harry depicted as a puppet, sat down with Paddington Bear, as well as Spitting Image’s portrayal of Donald Trump at the White House.

Vladimir Putin also features, as well as Elon Musk whose puppet is wearing dark sunglasses and a black cap. Angela Rayner appeared as well as Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Back in 2023, puppets of some of the show’s best-known targets including Thatcher, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and Princess Diana were put on display at an exhibition in Cambridge.

Created by British caricaturists Peter Fluck and Roger Law, Spitting Image was merciless in its depiction of the leading public figures of the day.

Producer John Lloyd said he had been determined to work on the show as soon as he heard about it and immediately got in contact.

‘They said, ‘we already have two producers we don’t need you, thank you very much’, so I said, ‘I’ll work for nothing’,’ he told AFP.
