When did sandals become cool again? Maybe when Kendall Jenner paired her denim hot pants and white tee with Birkenstocks? Or last summer, when Hailey Bieber and Taylor Swift opted for fisherman sandals that could have been plucked straight from your grandad’s wardrobe? Whenever the shift happened, quite frankly our trotters couldn’t be happier to wave goodbye to uncomfortable ballet flats and embrace styles that are more practical and supportive (yes, we’re officially old people).

A guest wearing studded Birkenstocks to Fashion Week (yes, really)
But we’re happy to report we’ve spotted a new sandal trend that’s both cosy and chic. Enter the ‘country sandal’: basically a normal sandal, only the straps and sole and made of leather or suede (and preferably studded). Think the type of sandals Beyoncé might wear to channel her Cowboy Carter era on the beach and you’re about there.
These embellished clogs are not only tapping into the musical zeitgeist, but the fashion one too. Cult-favourite footwear brand Alaïa (the designer behind the viral studded flats from a few years ago) have sold out its metallic studded pair of sandals despite the eye-watering £935 price tag. Gucci’s embellished pair sell for £840, while Dior’s leather and gold sandal style fetch a whopping £890.

We’ll be honest: our budget isn’t quite going to stretch to Dior’s offering. But there are plenty of stellar studded sandals on the high-street if you fancy country-fying your footwear for SS25. This might not be Texas, but that’s not stopping us getting our cowgirl on.
