Jeopardy kicked off the second week of their Second Chance tournament on Monday, which offered a double dose of redemption for one contestant.

The two-week tournament features contestants who didn’t win their regular games and get another chance to succeed.

One of Monday’s contestants was Drew Goins, a journalist from Honolulu, Hawaii, who revealed that in his first appearance he got a Taylor Swift question wrong.

‘Yeah, so I got a Taylor Swift question wrong and went home worried that the Swifties would come rip me out of my bed one night,’ he said with a laugh.

‘But it turns out that the angriest Swiftie was my brother who is here today,’ Goins added, as they showed his brother Zach in the crowd.

‘The night before taping he had prepared an entire practice board for me that we kind of like, “Ah, let’s just get through it, get through it, I have more stuff to study.” And it was entirely Taylor Swift,’ he said with a laugh.

Host Ken Jennings added, ‘Wow. Well, maybe you’ll have a second chance today,’ and, as fate would have it, Drew would in fact his redemption.

During the Jeopardy round, one of the categories was Albums, and the final question of the round was the $200 spot, with Drew in control of the board.

He nervously said, ‘Finish… bring it?’ as the final clue was revealed, which, poetically, was in fact a Taylor Swift question.

Ken Jennings said, ‘Here we go. In 2014, Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year,’ as the audience started to laugh.

A giddy Drew was able to ring in first as he emphatically answered, ‘What is 1989!’ as Ken enthused, ‘Redemption for Drew! That is correct. And the crowd goes wild,’ which in fact they did.

Drew already had a big lead at the end of the Jeopardy round – $11,600 – which he grew to $33,400 in the Double Jeopardy round for a commanding lead, though it was not a runaway, with Steve Miller in second with $18,400.

They all responded correctly in Final Jeopardy – correctly identifying Tinder as the app which was previously named Matchbox, though it had to switch due to its name being similiar to another company (Match.com).

While Miller made a big wager to bring him to $33,401, Goins – whose 30 correct responses were the highest in a game all season – was also correct and wagered $3,401 to bring his tally to $36,801 to win the match.

Goins' own brother Zach even let him off the hook, tweeting on Monday, 'No bad blood between me and @drewlgoins anymore. I knew all too well he'd crush any more @taylorswift13 questions on #Jeopardy! #DrewRound2 @taylornation13'

Goins’ previous appearance was back in September 2024, when he selected the $800 question in the Grammy Album of the Year category.

The question was, ‘The first of Taylor Swift’s record 4 AOTY Grammys was for this record in 2010,’ but Drew could only smile and shake his head, failing to come up with the correct response, Fearless.

Goins will now move on to the Group 2 finals on Thursday after two more semifinals matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.
