Matty Healy has been thrust into a familiar spotlight with the release of Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.

While the Bad Blood hitmaker had been expected to fire shots at her ex-partner Joe Alwyn, with this being her first album since their breakup, Swifties were surprised to find that The 1975’s frontman was also a regular target of the new songs.

In fact, the album’s title track appears to be directed at Healy rather than the actor who she spent far more time in a relationship with.

Since his fling with the record-breaking songstress in 2023, Healy has moved on with TikTok chef Gabbriette Bechtel.

So who is the controversial rocker’s new girlfriend? Find out by reading on.

Who is Gabbriette Bechtel?

Often known mononymously as Gabbriette, she was born Gabriella Bechtel in Orange County, California, in 1997 - making her eight years Healy's junior - to a Mexican mother and German father.

Though she moved to Los Angeles with dreams of being a ballet dancer, Gabbriette went on to fall into a modelling career, after being cast in a Blood Orange music video.

However, this was not plain sailing as she told Vogue in May 2023 that she spent large amounts of time as 'an unpaid, hard-working model'.

She has since worked with brands like Diesel, Bottega Veneta and Marc Jacobs.

This is not something she foresaw growing up, adding: 'The majority of students at my high school were beautiful, strictly white blonde girls, and my sister and I were Hispanic.

'I was called some pretty awful things. But then I just learned to laugh at it.'

Aside from her modelling pursuits, Gabbriette shares a taste for the stage with Healy having been the lead vocalist for punk rock band Nasty Cherry - a group hand-picked by British pop singer Charli XCX in 2018.

Joined by guitarist Chloe Chaidez, drummer Debbie Knox-Hewson and bassist Georgia Somary, the band were active until 2021 releasing three EPs and a Netflix docuseries in that time.

Over the pandemic, Gabbriette became TikTok-famous for cooking videos she would post on the platform.

One of the more viral posts was a recreation of a 'vegan blackout cake'.

She continues to post some of her best eats from decadent desserts to healthy breakfasts.

How long have Matty Healy and Gabriette Bechtel been together?

The pair have been linked since September 2023, following Healy's split from Taylor Swift that June, when they were spotted enjoying a steamy PDA in New York City.

Now an official couple, they have since made several public appearances together, including during Fashion Week and at the band's concerts.

After five months together, the frontman introduced his model girlfriend to parents Denise Welch and Tim Healy.

The new couple went to see the Loose Women star's show, The Gap, in Manchester before meeting the rock star's family, including his brother, Louis, afterwards.

Welch shared the cute snap on Instagram with the comment: 'Lovely to have the family in to see mum at work!!! @hopemilltheatre #thegap [heart emojis].'

The actress had also interacted with her son's girlfriend in the previous months online.

In October 2023, the model shared a photo of herself in a leather apron and a matching thong.

Welch replied: 'That’s exactly how I hope to look in mine when it arrives!!'

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: TRACK-BY-TRACK

Fortnight

A tuneful duet with Post Malone and a song seemingly about a two-week fling. The slow, electronic rhythms set the early tone.

The Tortured Poets Department

Another shimmering melody, and lyrics which suggest that Taylor, modestly, doesn't see herself at the top table of tortured poets: 'You're not Dylan Thomas, and I'm not Patti Smith.'

My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys

Written solely by Swift, this song's dense electronic hum adds forceful notes. 'Once I fix me, he's gonna miss me,' she vows.

Down Bad

'Everything comes out teenage petulance,' sings Taylor as she bitterly surveys the fallout from an old relationship.

So Long, London

The first track to be written with The National's Aaron Dessner brings a change of pace, with a lovely, choral intro. 'So long, London, you'll find someone,' sings Taylor.

This is her first new album since the end of her six-year relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn and, while she doesn't mention Alwyn by name, speculation will be rife that tracks such as So Long, London are about him. Pictured together in 2019

But Daddy I Love Him

'I know he's crazy, but he's the one I want,' sings Swift, showing wry humour as she admits to falling for the bad boys. Produced, with real brightness, by Dessner.

Fresh Out The Slammer

Finger-picked acoustic guitar adds folky notes reminiscent of lockdown albums Folklore and Evermore.

Florida!!!

An album highlight, this theatrical duet with London singer Florence Welch is an uplifting song of escape – from small-town life and a bad romance.

Guilty As Sin?

A tale of unrequited love, and a superb slice of 1980s-style soft rock. It even mentions The Downtown Lights, a 1989 single by Scottish band The Blue Nile.

Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?

Big drums, a dramatic arrangement, and more dry humour in another song penned solely by Swift. 'You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,' she snarls.

I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)

A moody, stripped-down number worthy of Lana Del Rey, who has also worked extensively with the song's producer, Jack Antonoff.

Loml

'You said I'm the love of your life,' sings Taylor on this warm, resonant piano ballad. In a smart twist, the 'loml' ultimately becomes 'the loss of my life'.

I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

More 1980s influences on an electronic pop track that sees Taylor vowing to remain a trouper, despite any romantic strife.

The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

'You didn't measure up in any measure of a man,' sings a disdainful Swift on a melodramatic ballad.

The Alchemy

Sporting metaphors aplenty suggest a track inspired by the singer's current boyfriend, American football star Travis Kelce. 'When I touch down, call the amateurs and cut them from the team,' she sings.

Clara Bow

It's tempting to think Taylor sees something of herself in a closing track inspired by an American actress of the 1920s who lived her life in the Hollywood goldfish bowl.

When were Taylor Swift and Matty Healy together?

Taylor and Healy first met as far back as 2014, when the former attended The 1975's tour, and bonded over their love of music.

She went on to be spotted wearing the British band's T-shirt while Matt returned the favour by performing in an 1989 album top.

While rumours swirled about a potential romance, nothing was ever confirmed.

However, they finally got together in May 2023, with Taylor declaring that she was the 'happiest she's ever been'.

But things ended as quickly as they had escalated and in June they pair went their seperate ways.
