Tom Holland’s West End Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet sold out two hours after going on sale on Tuesday morning.

The frenzy for general sale tickets for his 12-week run, which kicks off on May 11 until August 3, began at midday, with all tickets seemingly sold out after 2pm.

It comes after fans went into meltdown as more than 60,000 scrambled to get tickets for his West End return.

Pre-sale started at 8am on Tuesday morning with thousands joining a virtual queue to see if they could be in with a chance at seeing the actor, 27, as romantic lead Romeo Montague at the Duke Of York Theatre.  

Fans compared the stress of trying to get their hands on tickets as on par with Taylor Swift ‘s Eras tour, which has brought in $1.04billion with 4.35m tickets sold across 60 tour dates.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Tom’s followers voiced their fears they may not be able to see him on stage as they waited in a virtual queue behind thousands of others for the priority access tickets.

One wrote: ‘now why are there 25,000 people in front of me in the queue to get these Tom Holland Romeo and Juliet tickets this isn’t the eras tour’.

Others said: ‘28,664 people in front of me. There’s no way I’m getting tickets am I… i just wanna see my man (Tom Holland)’, and: ‘l I thought I was being proactive with my priority access to Tom Holland Romeo and Juliet theatre tickets at 8am. Turns out 41,000 other people are doing the same.’

Other fans celebrated after managing to get through the queue and get tickets for the show.

They wrote: ‘Survived the war for Tom Holland Romeo and Juliet tickets. Tickets started at 80 and went up to £145 from what I saw, but may have been higher for the very front rows (all gone of course)’.

‘I DID IT! I just scored a ticket to see Tom Holland in Romeo & Juliet on stage in London!!!! On closing night! Not to mention, it’s an aisle seat 3rd row from the stage! I must be dreaming.’

If fans miss out on the pre sale, they can be in with another chance when the general sale goes live at 12pm.

Tom, who is best known for playing Peter Parker in the latest Spider-Man movies, will star in the Jamie Lloyd Company’s version of the romantic tragedy alongside Harry Potter star Alfred Enoch, Sir Ian McKellen, Game Of Thrones’ Sean Bean and Richard Madden.

Director Jamie, 43, said: ‘Tom Holland is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world.

‘It is an honour to welcome him back to the West End.’

Tom made his stage debut as a child when he starred in Billy Elliot The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London in 2008.

Romeo And Juliet will mark his first West End role as an adult.

Tom’s loyal legion of fans went wild when the news was posted on X last week.

‘I actually cannot explain how excited I am for Tom Holland to be in Romeo and Juliet like this is HUGE?!??!!!’ tweeted one.

Another posted: ‘TOM HOLLAND GOING BACK TO THEATER. EVERYTHING IS GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN.’

‘Okay I’ve signed up for Romeo and Juliet presale because I WILL be seeing Tom Holland in person and I WILL be waiting at stage door after to meet him’ declared another, while another gushed ‘MY ROMEO’.

Romeo And Juliet is a story that has been staged hundreds of times on the West End and The Crown actor Josh O’Connor and Irish star Jessie Buckley appeared in a version of the play, filmed for TV inside the National Theatre in 2021.

Other actors to have played Romeo on stage include Harry Potter star Alfred Enoch, The Lord Of The Rings actor Sir Ian McKellen, Game Of Thrones’ Sean Bean and Bodyguard actor Richard Madden.

Romeo And Juliet will run at the Duke Of York’s Theatre from May 11 to August 3.

Further casting is yet to be announced.
