Billy Joel cleared the air about selling his longtime home in Long Island during his New Year’s Eve concert. The 74-year-old singer was performing at UBS Arena in Long Island on New Year’s Eve, where he opened up about listing his Oyster Bay home for $49 million in May.
Joel had lived in the home for over 20 years, though he insisted he’s not leaving Long Island entirely. He joked during the concert, ‘I’m just gonna spend a little more time in Florida like old Jewish guys from Long Island do.’
He added, ‘Just because I’m selling that house doesn’t mean I’m leaving Long Island. I still have a house on Long Island.’ The singer has a newly-rennovated summer home in Sag Harbor that he will be keeping.
Joel even acknowledged during the concert that the $49 million asking price was quite high, adding, ‘nobody’ would likely want to buy his home, dubbed Middlesea.
The singer purchased the five-bedroom, eight bathroom manor in 2002 for $22.5 million, which, at the time, had sat on a 14-acre lot.
He had purchased a number of adjacent properties throughout the years, expanding his estate to 26 acres with the home itself spanning a whopping 30,000 square feet. Joel took the home off the market in November, revealing at the NYE concert that he’s waiting for all of the rennovations to be completed before he puts it up for sale again.
He had reportedly been rennovating the home with the intention to sell, before putting it on the market in May 2023. The home is also quite close to Joel’s hometown of Hicksville, which is also located in Oyster Bay.
Joel currently owns a home in Manalapan, Florida, though he’s reportedly been eyeing other properties in the state as well. The singer made headlines in November when he took his young daughters to see Taylor Swift perform.
He shares Della Rose, eight, and Remy Anne, six, with wife Alexis Roderick, whom he tied the knot with in 2015. Joel admitted he ‘got very cool Dad points’ after taking his little ones to Swift’s Tampa stop while talking to People at the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame – which opened an exhibit in his honor on Friday.
The star also gushed about Taylor and her performance, stating, ‘Oh, she’s great. She’s really very good. We’re going to probably go see her again.’ Read the full story: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12918195/Billy-Joel-reveals-hilarious-reason-hes-selling-Long-Island-home-insists-isnt-leaving-area-New-Years-Eve-concert.html?ito=msngallery
