As 2023 draws to a close, BBC Radio 1 have announced their Hottest Record of the Year.
Spanning a range of genres, the ranking was decided by listeners who were able to vote for their favourite tracks via the Radio 1 website.
And during a special edition of Radio 1’s Future Sounds on Thursday evening, Clara Amfo announced that Nothing But Thieves had bagged the top spot.
Welcome To The DCC, the first single from their new album, debuted on Radio 1 as Hottest Record in March of this year and went on to receive critical acclaim.
Clearly a firm favourite, with listeners the track has secured a place at the top of the list after the release of the British rock band’s fourth album Dead Club City which was released at the end of June.

Speaking about their win Nothing But Thieves said: ‘We’ve said it before, but this song wasn’t even going to be a single until right at the last minute – it’s now the Hottest Record of the Year. Shows how much we know.
‘A massive, massive thank you to everybody who voted. It blows our collective mind that it had an effect on so many people’s year.
‘A huge thanks to Radio 1 too for giving it so much love. See you all next year. Merry Christmas and Welcome To The DCC (Dundee City Council).’
Coming in second place was Olivia Rodrigo’s Vampire which was released in June as the first single from her second album Guts.
In third was Miley Cyrus’ record-breaking Flowers which became the fastest record to ever reach a billion Spotify streams after it was released in January.
The hit single is also nominated for three awards at the upcoming Grammy’s, including both Record and Song of the Year.
In fourth place came Fred Again’s hit track adore u. Featuring Obongjayar, the British producer debuted the song as part of his Glastonbury set in June.
It quickly became a track of the summer and rose to number four on the UK singles chart.

Other tracks longlisted for Hottest Record of the Year included Doja Cat’s Paint The Town Red, Labrinth and Billie Eilish’s Never Felt So Alone, boygenius’s Not Strong Enough and Mahalia’s Terms and Conditions.
Also on the list was Calvin Harris with Ellie Goulding’s Miracle, cassao, RAYE and D-Block Europe’s Prada and Stormzy and Fredo’s Toxic Trait.
The Hottest Record in the World is unveiled every night on Radio 1 at 6pm in a slot known for launching and breaking some of the most exciting new music on the planet.
Paramore’s ‘This Is Why’ was crowned Hottest Record of the Year in 2022, beating the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and The 1975 to the top spot.
